Bursitis Treatment in Surrey, BC

Bursae are small cushions that reduce friction around joints. When one is irritated, everyday movements start to sting.

What it feels like

  • Localized pain and tenderness near a joint — commonly shoulder, hip, elbow or knee
  • Pain when lying on the affected side or with repeated movement
  • Occasional visible swelling or warmth over the sore spot

Why it happens

Bursitis is usually a symptom of something else: a joint that is being loaded unevenly, repetitive pressure or friction, or a sudden spike in activity. Settling the inflamed bursa without addressing why it became irritated often means the pain returns.

How we can help

We look past the sore spot to find what is overloading the bursa — movement habits, muscle imbalances or training load. Your practitioner then puts together a plan matched to your specific case, calming the irritation while addressing the cause, and adjusts it as your symptoms settle. If the picture does not behave like bursitis should, we will tell you and help you investigate further.

Common questions

Should I rest bursitis completely?

Complete rest usually backfires — the bursa calms but nothing changes about why it got irritated, and stiffness creeps in. Most cases do better with modified activity: easing the specific positions that compress the bursa while keeping the rest of the body moving.

Do I need a cortisone injection?

Not necessarily. Injections can settle symptoms in some cases, but they don't address why the bursa became overloaded. Many people improve with conservative care alone; if your case seems like one that would benefit from a medical opinion, we'll tell you.
