TMJ & Jaw Pain Treatment in Surrey, BC
Clicking, locking, aching — jaw problems wear you down through every meal and conversation. Physiotherapy has a real role here.
What it feels like
- Jaw clicking, popping or locking when you chew or yawn
- Aching in the jaw, temples or around the ear
- Headaches and neck tension that travel with it — often worse in stressful, clenchy weeks
Why it happens
The temporomandibular joint works thousands of times a day. Clenching and grinding, stress, neck posture, dental changes or a knock to the jaw can all irritate the joint and the muscles that drive it — and the neck is involved more often than not.
How we can help
We start by understanding what's actually driving your jaw pain — the joint, the surrounding muscles, the neck, or a combination — since that shapes the right approach for you. Your practitioner tailors a care plan to your specific presentation, and coordinates with your dentist when a dental factor is part of the picture.
Common questions
Can physiotherapy help a clicking jaw?
Clicking on its own, without pain or locking, often needs no treatment at all. When it comes with pain, restricted opening or episodes of locking, assessing the jaw and the neck together is the right starting point, because the two are closely linked.
Is my jaw pain related to grinding my teeth?
It can be. Clenching or grinding overnight loads the jaw muscles and joint for hours at a time, and we look at that alongside neck position and jaw mechanics. Where dental input would help, we will say so and work alongside your dentist.
