What it feels like
- Aching or tenderness along the inner edge of the shin
- Pain during and after running or impact activity
- Early on it eases with rest, then starts to linger
- Often flares after a jump in training or new footwear
Why it happens
Shin splints come from overloading the muscles and bone along the shin — usually a spike in running or impact, hard surfaces, footwear, or the way your legs load. Ignored, they can progress, which is why the cause matters.
How we can help
We look at your training load, footwear and how your legs are loading to understand what tipped your shins over. Your practitioner then builds a care plan around your specific case, reviewed as you get back to activity. The goal is a return to running that lasts — not a quick fix that flares the moment you ramp up again.
Most extended health plans cover treatment, and we direct bill — including ICBC and WorkSafeBC claims. Unsure where to start? Call to book a free 15-minute phone consult.
